The Largest Cruise Ship in the World.
Celebrating her maiden voyage on May 27, 1998 the Grand Princess is the largest cruise ship in the world. Weighing in at 109,000 tons she is 2.3 times bigger than the Titanic, and even rivals the size of the Normandie and Queen Mary. She was delivered to Princess Cruise Line by Fincantieri Monfalcone Shipyard in Italy this month. Grand Princess has a carring capacity of 2,600 passengers.
Grand Princess is the third of the Grand Class liners in the Princess Cruise Line fleet. She joins the Sun Princess and the Dawn Princess. The ship includes three state-of-the-art show lounges - the first cruise ship to do so - each offering passengers a different option for after-dinner entertainment. She also features three main dining rooms, an entire deck dedicated to suites and 750 cabins have their own private balconies. And on top of all that, she boasts:
*A motion-based interactive cinema offering virtual adventure rides
through sea or space
*A spectacular nightclub positioned 15 decks above the seas and
accessible by a moving glass escalator
*A theatre with a flexible seating arrangement which can be altered to
create a 'theatre in the round'
*A Blue Screen Room, where passengers can be filed and their images
merged into pre-exisiting film scenes, using technology similar to that
used in the film Forrest Gump
*A wedding chapel
Grand Princess is more than the biggest, most expensive cruise
ship ever. Weighing in at 109,000 tons, she is 951 ft. in length,
and holds 2600 passengers. Built at a cost of over $430 million, Grand Princess has more ways to relax, dine, shop, play,
swim, sun, dance and indulge than you can imagine.* With nine different places to dine and three shows from which to choose
nightly, you can do what you want, when you want. There are more dining choices in three dining rooms, 24 hour dining in the
Horizon Court, Sabattini's Trattoria and the Painted Desert, there new southwestern style restaurant. * Grand Princess boasts
a full wrap-around promenade deck, an inviting sports bar, a nightclub suspended 15 decks above the sea, funfilled Children's
and Teen's Centers and the largest casino afloat. Plus a 9 hole putting green and a golf simulator. She also has 3 pools to
choose from, Top of the ship gym and health spa, sports court for tennis, volleyball and basketball, a Virtual realty center and
ride and a blue screen TV video studio.
